Madeleine: Our daughter's disappearance and the continuing search for her

We would like to thank the police forces involved for their continued efforts in the search for Madeleine. Yet, the tone did distinctly change and I realised I didn’t actually believe her any more. Not that I think murder was involved then or now. But desire to believe her seemed to evaporate. I will try and post a 'summary of critique' of each chapter of Dr Kate's book over the next few days. Then the investigation that followed was made more awkward by the language difficulty and on more than one occasion the McCanns' had to question the translator(s), which did not lead to good relations for a while. The police, too, did not seem as helpful as perhaps they could have been and then, later on when they questioned the McCanns as suspects, or arguidos as they were called, the situation became very tense.

Dr Kate was ‘terrified’ flying in a small ‘pre-war propeller plane’ because the jet for Morocco had broken down. But still there is quite a lot that Kate McCann has left out or just mentions fleetingly, as if of little importance in their scheme of things or no business of the reader. Her aim is not to set our minds at rest about the many discrepancies related to the disappearance but to talk about Kate and the impact on Kate (so why call it ‘Madeleine’?). She is ‘annoyed’ with God. I rage at my God when life’s challenges become too much to bear. To be ‘annoyed’ sounds like a missing child is a small blip in an otherwise perfect life that God has dared to dump on them. Gerry gets invited by the Rupert Murdoch-owned Sun newspaper to a ‘Bravery Awards’ police ceremony in London. He is applauded there. Before that, he spends the afternoon having a tour of CEOP HQ. The couple, who met in 1993 in Glasgow and married five years later, have had to find a way to put one foot in front of the other for the sake of their twins, Amelie and Sean, now 18. Kate and Gerry, who still live in Rothley, Leicestershire, are devout Catholics, however Kate admitted her faith has been put to the test amid the trauma their family has faced.

But then how could she/they lie quite so blatantly if involved? Perhaps Kate McCann does present a partial version which resonates with some truth? Why do I no longer believe her yet cannot fathom how the child was moved post-mortem/post-disappearance?
