About this deal

The Spire Tyrants are warriors and pit fighters from the fighting pits of the Varenspire. Only the most brutal, skilled, and determined to survive the pits and make it out. After surviving the pits, they seek bigger challenges and glory and the best place for that is at the Everchosen's side. Each model in the warband has a lot of character, and as a painter you get to paint almost any kind of texture as you go through the project: Hair, skin, metals, cloth, fur, horns, armor plating, jewelry, nets and so on. Players will always have the temptation to get a single box of figures and just go with that, and it’s a viable list for a lot of the warcry factions, which are literally built on that. In matched play though, where you’re looking to put together a fairly optimised warband, you’ll want to go beyond that and look at what allies, thralls and monsters could bring to the table. Even the blood and thunder of the arena ceases to hold any allure for the Spire Tyrants. Instead, they seek greater tests, venturing out into the lethal wilds of the Eightpoints. There they look for worthy foes and challenges, hoping to earn infamy enough to gain the favour of the Everchosen. These champions retain the names and epithets they earned in the arena. They also maintain the arrogance and showmanship that defines the greatest gladiators, favouring bloody eviscerations and decapitations over a simpler, more efficient kill. The sight of such a gruesome death can steal the nerve from even a veteran fighter. The Splintered Fang are a demanding and varied warband that rewards experimentation and list building. The initial cost of purchasing the extra models is strongly balanced by the tactical flexibility it provides.

This is a very useful ability, since some of your other abilities like the Pit Veteran’s Shield Ram work best if you get into combat first rather than the enemy closing in on you, and since the Pit Fighter is so cheap, there’s no reason not to take him as part of your warband, even if it is only for the access to his ability. Like the Pit Veterans, he can use the ability Readied Stance, which improves his Toughness, so he has a better chance of surviving another round. The Iron Golems and Spire Tyrants have gotten some decent play in some Idolator lists even before this change. Iron Golems marked with Nurgle become one of the hardest units in your army to dislodge, while Spire Tyrants marked with Khorne can put out some decent damage on the charge. Being able to take it in any of the subfactions will open up a breadth of new options. Core Battalions All the Warcry factions have their strengths and weaknesses. Killing the opposition will always help you achieve your objectives, but it’s not that simple and you’ll always need to control the board to some extent.

List Building

Effective melee range on models is something worth paying attention to, and you can be a little gamey in making sure your 2” range models are engaging your opponents 1” range models. In addition, most advertising networks offer you a way to opt out of targeted advertising. You’re going to need to choose if you want to build with or without Archaon The Everchosen because he’s extremely expensive. At almost half your list he can pull his weight but you need to build around him. You might see some people online say he got worse, I’d argue he isn’t that much worse, he was just taken down a peg in other Chaos factions where he got to break mechanics over his knee (namely, Tzeentch). He used to be able to join any mono-god faction due to having all the keywords and now the rules have changed around him so he really only gets to shine in Slaves to Darkness. Honestly, I think its the right move for the sake of balance. Use the Triple you would spend on this on literally anything besides this. Inspiring Presence from the generic abilities will always be a better ability than this. Chaos Cults - Damned Legions - Dark Gods - Darkoath - Eightpoints - Mark of Chaos - Ogroids - Path to Glory

Slaves to Darkness are the successor to Warriors of Chaos from Warhammer Fantasy Battles and are more or less intact to their original version. The majority of the models are just Warriors of Chaos, with Archaeon the Everchosen and a Start Collecting with some new chaos warriors. The older models have held up surprisingly well standing next to the the newer stuff and the diversity grants a fair bit of flexibility in list building. The Pit Veteran with options can also be built with a metallic visor instead of the regular face, which looks really cool but doesn’t affects its statistics. Your models have wide access to melee weapons with a range greater than 1”, but don’t be tempted into always staying out of the 1” bubble. This frees the enemy to simply leave the engagement and make a move action rather than a disengage action. To win ideally you remove the objective where your opponent has the most models and hope they don’t do it to you. Also the less models your opponent has left to put around the objective, the better, just saying. This sets them apart from the rest of the Warcry Chaos warbands, since they don’t worship a shamanistic symbol of Chaos. The Spire Tyrants know what they’re dealing with, and calls themselves the Chosen of Archaon himself. This can be a good way of adding some damage to a double move action, which is often a good idea since the Pit Veterans can survive pretty well in a melee with their Toughness 5.
