About this deal

But wait for it, the best part is worth your patience the courtroom dramas, oh my goodness sensational and so much fun - like you are a fly on the courtroom wall, if only! The book is a vivid account of how, in the 1960s and 1970s, Stonehouse - once tipped as a future Labour prime minister - betrayed his country, made a mockery of domestic and international law, ripped off investors and friends, humiliated both Harold Wilson and Parliament and shattered his own family and then, when the jaws of his self-made trap began to close around him, organised and executed a fake-your-own-death escape of such breathtaking chutzpah, he later tried to explain it as the work of a second personality living within him. When it was noticed that Stonehouse hadn’t collected his belongings, it appeared that he had vanished from the face of the Earth. We'll be in your inbox every morning Monday-Saturday with all the day’s top business news, inspiring stories, best advice and exclusive reporting from Entrepreneur.

The story certainly had some sensational elements to it, especially the fact that Stonehouse had accepted money from an East Block country during the Cold War. I couldn't but help notice the negative reviews seem to be from people who haven't even read the book (not verified purchasers) so I'm not sure that they can be trusted. A fascinating look into the mind of a conflicted politician/humanist who reacted strangely to a crisis point. To great fanfare and media attention Stonehouse appears at the Old Bailey to answer several charges whereupon he decided to act as his own attorney making the claim that his fake identities had taken him over causing him to undertake the strange actions he was being accused of.In January 2003 a 17 year-old boy was sleeping in North London when the police ‘acting on information received’ hammered on the door.

As well as expertise in relation to computer misuse offences, Julian also specialises in providing advice to Communication Service Providers and others in relation to their obligations under the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000, the Investigatory Powers Act 2016, and the GDPR Data Protection Act 2018. Hayes’ reputations has continued to flourish, seeing success in many high profile cases as well as the vice presidency of the London Criminal Courts Association. Usually crime/political genre books is not my preference however having heard of the Stonehouse saga through friends and reading articles online I found myself intrigued with the story and purchased this book . As for Czech intelligence officers who named him as a spy after they defected to the west, she argues that their word is not to be trusted either. The historical narrative is fascinating although so much of what happened at that time resonates through to today, with the Cold War intrigue and the rise and fall of a significant political figure.

Even for the strange 1970s, this stands out as one of the most surreal episodes of that turbulent decade.
